Oh, crap.

Looks like Em screwed it up big. Again. For the seventeenth time this week.

I don't cook enough, there are always dirty dishes, the laundry is piling up, I'm not active enough, I'm not spending enough time with Josh, the list goes on and on. The black marks just keep getting added.

I suppose all the things that have gone wrong didn't start this week, but everything's blowing up in my face this week.

Ah, well. Time to go try and fix it. Task number 1: do all of yesterday's dishes. Luckily, we ate out last night so there aren't many.

12 1/2 weeks!

The good: WE HAVE A HEARTBEAT! And I haven't gained any weight yet, but as my midwife said, "Whoa! Your uterus is big!" Translation: none of my pants fit.

The hilarious: Guy went down for his nap, and turned on his light and played for a few minutes. After he was asleep, I went in to turn it off and he was lying face down with his bum up in the air, up on his knees. It was cute :-)

The not-so-good: I have to do a one-hour glucose test. This week! Since Guy was so huge, I'm at a higher risk for gestational diabetes. This stinks because I'm not out of the nausea stage of pregnancy yet. It would also appear that I am no longer immune to Rubella. Not good, either, but there's nothing to do about it until after the baby's born.

And Becca--it looks like we'll be living in Willow Grove on the Naval base, and we'll be there by June 23rd. They have temporary housing that seems like it will be a good fit for us. But I'll have a car most days, so we'll have to get together and go to lunch.

It's been a while, blog

I don't even remember what my last post was about. Probably about feeling gross and pregnant. The feeling not-so-great comes and goes, mostly I'm just tired now.

Josh has started spring term courses, and is taking two rather difficult Economics courses to get started on his Masters of Accountancy. He says he's sick of school, but I think he's just frustrated that he's having to get into a new groove with different teachers, and a very different style from the super structured Junior Core classes he's had for the last eight months.

We've eaten out too much, but at least I've gotten back into green smoothies again. Even Guy enjoys his :-) I take the valve out of his sippy cup so he can suck it down just like Mama.

I got my hair cut. I know I promised you a picture, Shauna, but I keep forgetting when Josh is around to take one. Maybe I'll have to do the mega-long-arm self-picture-taking trick. I loved the salon I went to. They give free scalp massages, and a wash, cut, and style was only $29. Can you believe that? And everyone was very professional. And I love my haircut. It's pretty simple, just past my shoulders with some nice layers, but it looks so much cleaner than my grown-out-mullet from the bad haircut I had more than two years ago. Yeah. That long. I know. Scary, huh?

I went to the Utah Valley Women's Expo today, and it was a ton of fun. I went with three of my good friends, and none of us had children with us! It was fun looking at the booths, seeing what people had to sell, trying samples of things, and laughing a lot. I had my blood sugar tested (normal), tried out lotions and potions of various kinds, entered to win a lot of drawings, and realized that I'd really, REALLY like to try one of those DreamDinners kind of places. You know, where you show up and assemble the meals and take them home. Within 2 hours you have 72 servings of food, ready to cook.

All in all, life is going well. We're getting ready to head to Philadelphia at the end of June, trying to decide whether or not we want to be Community Aides when we get back, and oh, yeah--Josh joined the Air Force Reserve.

Bit of a bombshell? He's always felt compelled to serve in the armed forces, and he found a way to do it without interfering with his school plans. It does mean he'll be taking winter semester off from school to go train for 14 weeks or so.

Which will leave me with a 2-year-old and a 2-month-old by myself. Hey, sis--want some company for a few months?

I'm.So.Tired.

I went to bed last night at 10:15. I dozed until Josh came in around 10:40. I woke up at 11 p.m. when Guy started crying. I thought I'd see if he'd calm down and go back to sleep. No dice. Seven minutes and many screams later, I brought him to bed and fed him. He cried. Turned over. Pushed both of us, cried some more, and ate some more.

I put him back in bed. He was in there for three minutes before he turned his light on and started crying again. So I went and tried to nurse him in the rocker. No dice. I changed his diaper, gave him ibuprofen, and brought him back to bed.

Finally, at midnight, he was back in bed and asleep. And then it took me half an hour to fall asleep.

The alarm went off at 6 this morning, as Josh had to be on campus at 7. Guy woke up at 7:05. I got just barely six hours of sleep. And I'm exhausted.

Jack Johnson

There's something about listening to Jack Johnson that soothes the soul.

It's been a productive and quite pleasant day. Guy's not napping yet, as when he was almost asleep friends came over, so I let him play.

But I had a really nice morning. Something about friendly grocery store staff, a balloon bobbing up and down in the backseat, Jack Johnson on the radio, and a coke at my side that makes life slow down just a little bit.

I like it slow.

Monday Musings

I'm stealing the idea for a Monday Musing from Katherine, my good friend and neighbor.

I went for my first midwife appointment today. I thought it wouldn't be long, just a little bit of paperwork to get things underway. I was wrong. I waited in the office for ten minutes. I filled out privacy paperwork and allergies and medications, etc. I waited for five minutes. I peed in a cup (I hate that part. It's such a hassle) and then waited another ten minutes. I went into a different room and waited five minutes. I gave a complete health and mental history, including family history and everything medical that was ever significant. I listened to the standard spiel about what the practice offers and does not offer.

I weighed myself. Only .8 lbs up, and yet I can't fit into two of my favorite pairs of jeans. Lameness. I made an appointment for next month, asked for a pregnancy verification for Medicaid, had blood drawn, and forgot to get said verification. Meaning I have to go back tomorrow to do it.

I need to get all of the paperwork together and turned in by Thursday. This means statements from all six bank accounts, the car loan, financial aid, and our tax refund information. Yuck.

It snowed today. Again. Just like last week. And I'm sick of it. There were beautiful moments of sunshine, and dark gloomy overcast blizzard-y moments. But Josh bought KFC for dinner, and Amy and Jeremy brought over the fixings for rootbeer floats. We watched the Memphis-Kansas game (can you say agonizing?!?) and then played Texas Hold 'Em. Don't tell anyone--it's my guilty pleasure.

The KFC was excellent. And we saw Tom for the last time this trip. It's been so nice having him around, and he's had such a good time with Guy, it'll be sad to have him gone. I'm getting all teary and sentimental. Stop it, Emily. You're fine.

I have lots of other thoughts floating around my head, but I think it just may be time to stop thinking, and simply go to bed. Much love, internets.

P.S. I have the best sister-in-law evah. Amy, you rock it to the awesome.

Red Tape

I've been a busy girl this morning. I started sorting through Medicaid paperwork for the pregnancy (because no one in her right mind would pay $600/month for maternity premiums when her student husband isn't working). I made two meals for the family, read a chapter in Preach My Gospel, did some dishes, bought eggs from the creamery and picked up newsletters from the office.

I still have two loads of laundry to fold, and I need to make banana bread. And clean up my hurricane of a kitchen. It's bad. Really, really bad. I just can't seem to get on top of it, especially when the smell of food plus the steam on my face as I wash the dishes make me feel miserable.

Ah, the joy of pregnancy! I'm feeling pretty good, all things considered. I'm just tired. And hungry. And thirsty. And tired. But not puking! Count my blessings, right? I'm not puking.

And I have black ants all over my kitchen.
