Corn between my toes

I love being a mom. It's the most hilarious job I have ever had.

Guy's had a fun day today. He got to play with his Papa this morning, and went outside for an hour to play, chased some birds, rolled his truck down the slide, and ate lots of yummy food.

And now there's corn all over my carpet! But that's okay. It's not too hard to clean up, I just have to do it. But speaking of doing things, I've already put away laundry, cleaned the bedroom, done all the dishes, and cooked several meals today!

In good news, we found a place! 2 bedrooms, even! And cheaper than what we budgeted for! And I found out Josh gets reimbursed for using public transportation! What a happy day this has been.

So now I'm eating my grilled ham and swiss sandwich. And it's fantastic, thank you for asking. Still to do today? I need to clean up my floor (obviously) and do the few dishes that remain from lunch. I need to check the mail and take the stinky trash out, and I need to get dinner started in the next few hours.

It's a happy day today. Sorry for the myriad exclamation points!

And now, because this blog just went private, a picture of my super cute son.

Car Accident

There's so much I could right about right now.

My ModBe party didn't go so well. I don't much care, though. I taught a healthy cooking class for enrichment. The weather has been pretty spotty lately. I'm working on finding the right place for us to stay in Philadelphia. And I need to figure out where we'll sleep along the way there and back. My laundry needs to be done, and I'm hungry, and I was planning on grocery shopping this morning but that didn't happen.

The main thing on my mind right now? The car accident this morning. I hadn't eaten breakfast, so Guy and I were on our way around 10 a.m. to get breakfast and do our shopping, when I got clipped from behind on University Avenue. She was going way too fast, and I barely got out of her way in time. The car's not looking too bad--but the rear right lights aren't working and the bumper looks pretty beaten up on that side. But I haven't eaten enough yet today and I'm just feeling emotionally drained and really tired.

Not good considering all the phone calls I need to make today. And it's already 3 p.m. Ugh. What a day. I think I need a nap.

Oh, what do you eat in the summertime?

When all the world is HOT!

Good ideas for summer meals, anyone? It's nearly 90 degrees today, and we settle on bean dip. But the sour cream is almost gone, and the avocado was moldy. Oops. So off Josh went to the Creamery.

So far, this is what I've got for summer.

Sandwiches
Anything grilled--steak, burgers, dogs
Potato, macaroni, pasta, and other cold salads
Bean dip!
Bruschetta (tomatoes, basil, garlic, olive oil--on crusty bread)
Pizza
Lots of fresh fruit

Tell me, friends, some of your favorite summertime it's hotter than Hades and I don't have a/c meals.

Keeping in mind that the housing we have lined up in Philadelphia has no kitchen. Just a microwave. And a fridge. That'll be interesting.

High Hopes

I had high hopes for today. I was going to get all the dishes done (only yesterday's and today's, but they pile up fast!), run some errands, do my grocery shopping, meet with a member of the bishopric, and clean the bathroom.

What did I end up doing? Well, we all had breakfast, Guy and I got ready to go run some errands, and I had just turned onto University Avenue when I heard gagging in the backseat.

Oh, and was there a lot of gagging. Guy's entire breakfast (eggs, toast, raisins, cheerios, and milk) was dripping down his front. He just gave me a confused look, still holding the cracker he was munching previous to the incident.

We came home, cleaned him up, cleaned the carseat (that was an ordeal I don't want to repeat), and tried to keep him calm and give him some fluids.

Josh left for school, and Guy threw up five times in the space of two or three minutes on my living room carpet.

I spent the rest of the day trying to keep my baby hydrated and happy. Which meant way more TV than we usually watch, and lots of cuddling. But no dishes. And no errands. And no cleaning.

And can I tell you? I'm exhausted from it.

So you need a budget . . .

We've been floating along without a good budget or healthy habits of tracking expenditures for the past few months. The time has come to be more diligent with this aspect of my life.

So I'm printing off a couple of monthly budget worksheets that I liked using from my family finance class, and I'm hoping to get a better idea of just what we're spending. Unfortunately, I know we're spending too much on food. Even if I am pregnant and nursing, we can eat healthier for less than we're spending now.

I also want to deep-clean my bathroom this week. Scrub the tub and shower, move everything out to mop, and scrub down some yellow spots on the walls. It really needs to be done, along with the kitchen (next week's goal). I also am doing laundry right now, and am hoping to reclaim my bedroom. Currently the loveseat is piled high with clothing, mostly clean but not put away. Problem here? Maternity clothes! I have clothes in my closet that don't fit, both too small and too big. I'm in between regular and maternity clothes.

Oh, and cleaning out the fridge. That's on the list this week. As is a meeting with the 1st Counselor in the bishopric, a community aide meeting, a Mary Kay party, my ModBe party, and yet ANOTHER direct sales party. It's only Tuesday, and I'm already feeling tired.

Oh, crap.

Looks like Em screwed it up big. Again. For the seventeenth time this week.

I don't cook enough, there are always dirty dishes, the laundry is piling up, I'm not active enough, I'm not spending enough time with Josh, the list goes on and on. The black marks just keep getting added.

I suppose all the things that have gone wrong didn't start this week, but everything's blowing up in my face this week.

Ah, well. Time to go try and fix it. Task number 1: do all of yesterday's dishes. Luckily, we ate out last night so there aren't many.

12 1/2 weeks!

The good: WE HAVE A HEARTBEAT! And I haven't gained any weight yet, but as my midwife said, "Whoa! Your uterus is big!" Translation: none of my pants fit.

The hilarious: Guy went down for his nap, and turned on his light and played for a few minutes. After he was asleep, I went in to turn it off and he was lying face down with his bum up in the air, up on his knees. It was cute :-)

The not-so-good: I have to do a one-hour glucose test. This week! Since Guy was so huge, I'm at a higher risk for gestational diabetes. This stinks because I'm not out of the nausea stage of pregnancy yet. It would also appear that I am no longer immune to Rubella. Not good, either, but there's nothing to do about it until after the baby's born.

And Becca--it looks like we'll be living in Willow Grove on the Naval base, and we'll be there by June 23rd. They have temporary housing that seems like it will be a good fit for us. But I'll have a car most days, so we'll have to get together and go to lunch.

It's been a while, blog

I don't even remember what my last post was about. Probably about feeling gross and pregnant. The feeling not-so-great comes and goes, mostly I'm just tired now.

Josh has started spring term courses, and is taking two rather difficult Economics courses to get started on his Masters of Accountancy. He says he's sick of school, but I think he's just frustrated that he's having to get into a new groove with different teachers, and a very different style from the super structured Junior Core classes he's had for the last eight months.

We've eaten out too much, but at least I've gotten back into green smoothies again. Even Guy enjoys his :-) I take the valve out of his sippy cup so he can suck it down just like Mama.

I got my hair cut. I know I promised you a picture, Shauna, but I keep forgetting when Josh is around to take one. Maybe I'll have to do the mega-long-arm self-picture-taking trick. I loved the salon I went to. They give free scalp massages, and a wash, cut, and style was only $29. Can you believe that? And everyone was very professional. And I love my haircut. It's pretty simple, just past my shoulders with some nice layers, but it looks so much cleaner than my grown-out-mullet from the bad haircut I had more than two years ago. Yeah. That long. I know. Scary, huh?

I went to the Utah Valley Women's Expo today, and it was a ton of fun. I went with three of my good friends, and none of us had children with us! It was fun looking at the booths, seeing what people had to sell, trying samples of things, and laughing a lot. I had my blood sugar tested (normal), tried out lotions and potions of various kinds, entered to win a lot of drawings, and realized that I'd really, REALLY like to try one of those DreamDinners kind of places. You know, where you show up and assemble the meals and take them home. Within 2 hours you have 72 servings of food, ready to cook.

All in all, life is going well. We're getting ready to head to Philadelphia at the end of June, trying to decide whether or not we want to be Community Aides when we get back, and oh, yeah--Josh joined the Air Force Reserve.

Bit of a bombshell? He's always felt compelled to serve in the armed forces, and he found a way to do it without interfering with his school plans. It does mean he'll be taking winter semester off from school to go train for 14 weeks or so.

Which will leave me with a 2-year-old and a 2-month-old by myself. Hey, sis--want some company for a few months?
