We had meatball sub sandwiches for dinner at my house tonight. They were quite tasty. But between morning sickness and horrible (and embarrassing!) gas I don't feel I had the opportunity to enjoy them much.
At least I won't be tempted by leftovers, since everything I cooked was eaten. And by cooked, I mean threw in the crockpot. You know, the frozen meatballs and canned sauce. Ah, the good life.
I'm struggling to update this frequently, as I would like to do. I feel like I don't quite have a handle on my life these days, as my dishes are never all done, my house is never very tidy, and I don't get as much reading done as I would like. Aside from the daily tasks, there are other bigger decisions looming that I won't discuss here.
It's always interesting to see the twists and turns life takes. In striving to follow the Lord's will for our lives, J and myself will prayerfully consider a decision, research all of our options, spend countless hours discussing pros and cons, and then finally choose a course of action. Then, the following day, the Lord will somehow reveal to us that, oops, we chose the wrong one. So, let's start over with the decision making process as we slowly eliminate options and others become available to us.
It's feeling a bit like an exercise in patience right now, striving to do my very best to follow the Spirit after studying things out in my mind, only to be told I came to the wrong decision. Well, I'm sure we'll learn, and I have faith that the Lord will provide for our needs.
As for right now, I'm going to bed. Because I feel lousy. And I'm a little depressed that I got less out of enrichment than I had hoped. Oh, well. There will be others.

Ten Days.
Whoa, and what a ten days they've been!
My cell phone stopped working, so I got a new one. Yay! I love VirginMobile. The last phone I bought, two years ago, cost $15. So did this one. But this one has a color screen and lots of cool features. Yippee!
Today is Pi day (3/14!) and so I went next door to my neighbor the mathemetician's house and learned all about how Pi is a constant. But not a constant. And I ate three slices of pie. Yum :-) And the kids had fun getting on each other's nerves. Woo-hoo.
Speaking of kids. Come Thanksgiving, we should have another one! I am thrilled beyond belief, and feeling impatient to have another one join our little family.
Oh, and I had Carl's Jr. for dinner. I'm hoping that nursing a toddler and being pregnant will make up for all of the calories I've consumed the last few weeks.

"Green" Smoothie
So, I don't know if frozen fruit counts in a raw diet (do they blanch frozen fruit like they do frozen veggies?), but today I had my first "green" smoothie.
Well, it was more purple, really, because I used blueberries. Add a fistful of spinach, leftover yogurt that Guy refused to eat, and some milk to thin it out a bit.
It was interesting. I'm happy that I got a full serving of milk, a serving of fruit, and a fat serving of greens in one glass, in less than two or three minutes that it took to make it and chug it down.
And Guy enjoyed eating it off of a spoon, so that's great, too! I'm sure I'll have to experiment with different fruits and greens to find one that tastes good, as opposed to decent.
All things considered? I don't think I'll drink one of these every day, but I could manage a few times a week. Especially considering how good it is for me!

Use Your Resources
This week I had two great money-saving moments.
Discount meat at Harmon's (fantastic steaks for $1.30/lb--they were even appropriate portions!)
Free day-old bread! It makes life so much better when it's inexpensive.

Could We Really Go Raw?
I received a book in the mail today (Thanks, Mutti!) titled 12 Steps to Raw Foods. My in-laws have switched over to a diet that consists mainly of raw foods, and are seeing the advantages of such a lifestyle. I'm still hesitant that I can do it, but I want to try to incorporate more raw fruits and vegetables.
We've already switched to raw milk, which tastes better than any milk I've ever had. Except fresh whole goat's milk. And that's probably because the raw milk we purchase is skim.
Guy and I have started eating more raw fruits and vegetables, too. I find that's an easy way to get a lot of food that's filling for not much money. I can go and spend $20 on produce that will get us through the week with significant amounts of raw fruits and veg every day.
Josh really likes the food processor salad idea, where you grate or slice everything using a food processor, resulting in smaller and more manageable pieces. I'm still getting used to it. I would love to start drinking green smoothies, but Josh is rather hesitant. I should just start making them for myself and Guy, then. I haven't yet, though. But I will. Next week, I promise I will make at least one green smoothie.

Go Pistons!
Tonight we're going to the Jazz v. Pistons game in Salt Lake. We weren't planning on going, despite wanting to, since Guy doesn't go to bed until 7 and that's when the game starts. But Tom bought tickets and isn't in town to use them, since he'll be starting his leave later than he originally anticipated.
So that means that at 5:30 we'll be on our way to Salt Lake. This means I've had to arrange for three different baby-sitters, and I'm praying that Guy will be good for all of them. I'm nervous, understandably, because the last five nights he's gone to bed literally kicking and screaming. It only lasts five or ten minutes before he's asleep. Or at least until he's quietly talking to himself. But still, if it drives me crazy will the sitters be able to handle it? I hope so.
Our saving grace is a wonderful community of people who love helping each other out. It means free baby-sitting when we need it. The only cost is love and a helping hand whenever someone else needs it.
It's going to be a long night, but one way we're trying to save money is Josh and I are packing dinner to be eaten in the car when we get closer to Salt Lake. This will save us the eating out cost, and hopefully keep us satisfied long enough to avoid wasting money on concessions. I hope.

Corn. And Laundry. And more Corn.
I finished reading the first part (of four) of Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma. What a mind-boggling read. I love his style, the information is fascinating, and yet it turns my stomach.
I really desperately need to fold the three loads of laundry left to go (one already folded and put away!) and put away the dishes drying on the counter and tidy up the toys, but I had to get this out while I'm thinking about it.
After reading about how the beef industry works, I never want to buy conventional beef again. Really truly. I probably will continue to buy it. At least sometimes. But I am newly committed to finding new ways to make vegetarian meals. I'm sure the chicken industry is just as bad. And yet it's so hard to think about revamping our menus to exclude sale-priced chicken and beef. Especially since there's no extra money to buy grass-fed beef and free-range chicken.
Sure, the sale-priced chicken I buy is usually pretty flavorless. At least compared to the roasted chickens I make myself. (Who knew chicken could taste like chicken?!?) But the easiest way I can think of to include more meals without these ingredients is to add soups.
Guess what? My husband doesn't. Like. Soup. I know. Weird. And frustrating! I'm sure my fellow Tightwad Gazette readers are groaning. Soup with bread is CHEAP! And HEALTHY! And NOT AN OPTION!
I'm thinking it's bed time. The world is starting to look more and more gloomy and formidable.
